Fabrics & Care Guide

Preserving the Beauty of Your Silk Treasures

Each item designed and created by Of The Bea is designed with intention, crafted with care, and made to be worn, cherished, and remembered. From our exclusive, bespoke collection of silk prints with hand-rolled hems, no two items are ever truly alike.

Silk ages beautifully, but it’s also a delicate, precious fabric. With its ethereal sheen and soft feel, it is luminous and comes alive with its natural movement when worn.

To preserve the integrity of the fabric and clarity of our stunning limited edition prints, proper care ensures it continues to live, move, and shine as intended Here is a guide to nurturing your silk collection, so every piece continues to last for years to come.

Recommended Cleaning Methods:

1) Dry cleaning:

Not all of our garments have care labels attached due to the fragility of stitching and size of our items (our scarves, eye masks and chokers for example). However we recommend taking our silk items to a trusted dry-cleaner that knows about silk, cashmere and linings and would never use any harsh chemicals. Dry cleaning cares for silk garments and prevents misshaping, shrinkage or colour running.

2) Handwashing:

Sometimes it may not always be practical to go to a dry cleaners and in this case we recommend washing your item by hand using the following method:

    1. Gently submerge the silk item in cool to lukewarm water with a small amount of detergent for silk or delicates (preferably pH-neutral).
    2. Use a soft white towel made of cotton or bamboo to gently dab off any stains.
    3. Rinse thoroughly in clean water.

Note: Avoid hand washing vintage silk with embellishments, embroidery, or known fragility—these pieces are best left to professionals.

    Dry with Patience & Care

    • Lay flat and smooth gently on a clean towel to preserve shape.
    • Roll gently to absorb excess water, never wring.
    • Reshape while damp and allow to air dry, out of direct sunlight and heat. Never hang wet silk as it may distort.

    Gentle Pressing & Steaming

    • Use a cool iron on the reverse side, ideally with a pressing cloth.
    • Avoid pressing hand-rolled hems or raised embroidery.
    • Gentle steaming with a handheld steamer at a safe distance is preferred for all silk items.

    Consider your Accessories & Smells

Silk threads are extremely fine and can be snagged on jewellery or rough surfaces. Choose jewellery carefully to avoid catching the threads of your beautiful silk pieces. We also recommend avoiding spraying harsh chemicals or perfumes directly on to the silk.

With gentle handling, your silk will continue to hold its beauty for years, becoming not just part of your wardrobe, but part of your story.
